Shenzhen Technology University recruits doctoral candidates majoring in Opto-Mechatronic Engineering and Application relying on the College of Applied Technology, Shenzhen University. Catering to the development demands of high-end industries, the college draws extensively on the advanced school-running experience of top-tier universities in developed countries including Germany and Switzerland. Upholding the educational philosophy of “Craftsman Spirit and Humanistic Care”, it commits itself to cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents such as high-level engineers and designers equipped with global vision, craftsman spirit as well as innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities.
In terms of faculty development, the college prioritizes practical industry experience. Outstanding technical specialists, management elites and highly skilled professionals from relevant industries and enterprises are recruited as discipline leaders as well as full-time and part-time instructors. A regular two-way exchange mechanism has been established: faculty members take internships and practical postings in enterprises, while industrial experts serve as part-time teachers on campus. Among full-time faculty, six recipients of Special Government Allowance from the State Council, one Chief Scientist for the National 973 Program, 217 high-level talents of Shenzhen, 136 high-caliber overseas talents under the Shenzhen Peacock Program and three Pengcheng Scholars are included.
SZTU has built eight provincial and municipal innovation experimental platforms in total, consisting of five provincial-university-level research platforms and three municipal key laboratories. The provincial platforms cover Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Precision Manufacturing Technology (University), Guangdong Provincial University Engineering Technology Development Center for Intelligent Operation and Maintenance of Rail Transit, Guangdong Provincial University Engineering Technology Research Center for Crystal Growth and Application, Guangdong Provincial University Engineering Technology Research Center for Precision Components of Intelligent Terminals of Transportation Equipment, and Guangdong Provincial University Engineering Technology Research Center for Advanced MEMS Sensor Chips. The three municipal key laboratories are Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Urban Rail Transit, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Marine Energy and Environmental Safety, and Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Ultra-intense Laser and Advanced Materials Technology. In addition, the university has set up 20 university-enterprise joint laboratories such as Joint Laboratory for Laser Intelligent Manufacturing, University-Enterprise Joint Laboratory of Bioelectromagnetic Technology, Shenzhen Future Perception Laboratory and Co-construction Laboratory with Zhonghui Rail Intelligent Technology. These research platforms lay a solid foundation for postgraduates’ scientific research, practical skill training and cultivation of engineering application competency.
Over the past three years, university faculty have undertaken a host of research projects: 86 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 National Social Science Fund project, 5 military research projects, 1 sub-project of the National Key R&D Program and 4 Humanities and Social Science projects sponsored by the Ministry of Education, alongside 34 projects supported by Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Foundation. Within the same period, researchers obtained 648 authorized patents and published over 1,000 SCI-indexed papers, winning a total of 11 awards including the First and Second Prizes of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Second Prize of Shenzhen Science and Technology Progress Award and multiple industry association honors.
