The Delegation from the University Teknologi Malaysia and its China Project Center Visited CUTL

On May 13, 2025, a delegation of 14 leaders from the University Teknologi Malaysia(UTM) and its China Project Center, led by Professor Nazri bin Ali, the CEO (board member, associate school level), visited the College of Urban Transport and Logistics. They had friendly and constructive exchanges with Vice Dean, Professor Cheng Tao and his team, and had discussions on talent cultivation, school enterprise cooperation, international exchanges, on campus training, and the construction of unmanned aerial vehicle system engineering major. In particular, they had in-depth discussions on low altitude economy, our university's characteristic educational model, and international cooperation.

Founded in 1904, UTM is the oldest and most renowned national engineering and technical university in Malaysia. It is located in Johor, the most economically developed state in southern Malaysia, adjacent to Singapore, and also has a campus in Kuala Lumpur. It is a top university known for its engineering and technical disciplines, with outstanding performance in the fields of civil and structural engineering, chemical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, and other disciplines that rank among the world's top. It also offers courses in education, science, management, and human resources development, committed to high-quality education and research, and cultivating numerous professionals in the fields of engineering, technology, and management; As one of the largest research-oriented public universities in Malaysia, it has nearly 40000 students and currently has approximately 26000 full-time students, including over 6000 international students from around the world.

Professor Cheng Tao emphasized that since the 20th National Congress, our institute has actively responded to the Made in China 2025 strategy and vigorously promoted the research and development of cutting-edge technologies such as intelligent manufacturing and brain computer interfaces. Focusing on intelligent operation and maintenance of rail transit and unmanned intelligent transportation systems, combining artificial intelligence and big data analysis technology to optimize urban transportation management, and building a "smart rail transit" solution. In response to the trend of "electrification, intelligence, and networking" in automobiles, we will strengthen the research and development of hybrid drive control, vehicle multi-source perception, and fusion technologies, and promote the upgrading of the new energy intelligent vehicle industry chain. Based on the newly established unmanned aerial vehicle system engineering major, we will develop a low altitude logistics transportation network and unmanned aerial vehicle intelligent inspection system to expand the integration of land and air transportation scenarios.

In terms of talent cultivation, our university relies on the existing German applied technology university training system and vigorously carries out international cooperation. On top of this, combined with the industrial characteristics of China, especially in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, we have restructured the curriculum system, established "foundation + integration" dual platform courses, added interdisciplinary courses such as artificial intelligence and operations research, reduced the proportion of redundant general courses, and further promoted the "project-based learning + industry training" model. We have organized students to participate in national level scientific and technological innovation competitions such as intelligent logistics design competitions, formula car competitions, and unmanned aerial vehicle task competitions, and strengthened students' practical and combat abilities in talent cultivation models and strategies, which have been highly recognized.

Our university's achievements in school enterprise cooperation have also received great appreciation from Professor Alibaba and delegation, especially in joint laboratories with well-known enterprises such as Shenzhen Metro Group, BYD, and SF Express. Collaborative innovation are carried out in the fields of intelligent driving, connected vehicles, and smart logistics, achieving the transformation of achievements and empowering the manufacturing industry of a strong country through AI to further iterate and unleash new quality productivity.

Professor Cheng Tao also led the delegation to visit our college's Shenzhen UAV Equipment Technology Application and Service Pilot Base, Shenzhen Urban Rail Transit Key Laboratory, Guangdong Province University Transport Intelligent Terminal Precision Component Engineering Technology Research Center, Guangdong Province University Rail Transit Intelligent Operation and Maintenance Engineering Technology Development Center, UAV Comprehensive Intelligent Flying Base and other key scientific research and teaching platforms. They provided a detailed introduction to our institute's latest scientific research instruments and equipment, laboratory management regulations, and provided detailed answers to questions of interest from Professor Ali and other guests. In addition, both sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of valuable experience on how to promote scientific research in the field of transportation.

Finally, both parties also had forward-looking discussions on issues such as international cooperation, talent and technology exchange, investment and construction between our university and the Malaysian Polytechnic University and the Federation of Malaysia in the future.
