On April 8, 2026, a delegation of 11 members led by Professor Ali bin Selamat, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), visited Shenzhen Technology University. Professor Ming Zhong, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shenzhen Technology University, met with the guests. The two sides held an in-depth discussion, joined by Professor Cheng Tao, Vice Dean of the College of Urban Transportation and Logistics, and his team. The meeting focused on inter-university cooperation, talent cultivation, and scientific research innovation.

During the talks, both sides fully exchanged views on core areas including talent development, university-industry cooperation, international exchange, on-campus practical training, and the development of majors such as new energy unmanned driving and unmanned aerial vehicle system engineering. They also conducted in-depth discussions on key topics such as the development of the low-altitude economy, innovation and entrepreneurship among university students, as well as Shenzhen Technology University’s distinctive education model and international cooperation pathways, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation.

Vice President Ming Zhong introduced that Shenzhen Technology University is a public undergraduate university established at a high starting point and with high standards by Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Municipality. Officially approved by the Ministry of Education in November 2018, the University adheres to the educational philosophy of "innovation-oriented, demand-driven, open and integrated, and intelligence-led". Closely aligning with national strategies and the industrial needs of Shenzhen and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, it strives to build a cradle for innovative engineers and entrepreneurs, as well as a source of industrial science and technology for the Greater Bay Area.

Vice Chancellor Ali bin Selamat introduced that Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, founded in 1904, is Malaysia’s oldest national university specializing in engineering and technology. Its main campus is adjacent to Singapore, with an additional campus in Kuala Lumpur. Boasting core strengths in engineering and technology, its disciplines including civil engineering, chemical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, and mechanical engineering rank among the world’s top. Covering fields such as education, science, and management, the University focuses on high-quality teaching and research to cultivate outstanding professional talents.

During the visit, the UTM delegation toured the campus, practical training platforms, and industry-university-research integration achievements of Shenzhen Technology University, with both sides communicating in detail on the implementation of international cooperation. Professor Cheng Tao, Vice Dean of the College of Urban Transportation and Logistics, stated that the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System Engineering program at Shenzhen Technology University is industry application-oriented, offering two specializations: UAV Design & Intelligent Manufacturing and Applied Technology & Equipment. Focused on UAV research, development, testing, and optimization, the program integrates interdisciplinary knowledge from aerospace, mechanical engineering, automation, and electronic information. Its curriculum covers airspace planning, airworthiness, and safety, strengthening students’ capabilities in airspace management and route design. Meanwhile, UTM’s profound expertise and experience in engineering and technology can provide valuable references for the development of relevant programs and international talent cultivation at Shenzhen Technology University. The cooperation between the two universities will contribute to the coordinated development of international education and scientific and technological innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Finally, Vice President Ming Zhong and Vice Chancellor Ali bin Selamat exchanged souvenirs on behalf of both sides, deepening the friendship between Chinese and Malaysian universities through gifts. This exchange marks a new journey of complementary advantages and coordinated development for both universities. In the future, Shenzhen Technology University will continue to deepen international cooperation, focus on industrial needs and talent cultivation, collaborate with top global universities, and inject new momentum into the industrial development of the Greater Bay Area and even the world.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is one of Malaysia’s prestigious national universities and one of the country’s five research-intensive universities. It ranked 181st in the 2025 QS World University Rankings and rose significantly to 153rd in the 2026 rankings, having been rated a QS 5-Star University for consecutive years. The University traces its origins to the establishment of the Technical School in 1904 and was officially designated as a university in March 1984.

This visit marks UTM’s second visit to Shenzhen Technology University.
